Sale of fresh fish banned in Mon dist

Mon district administration has issued an order banning sale of fresh fish products including crustaceans and excluding live fish in the district.
In an official order, DC Mon, K Thavaseelan, stated that the ban imposed in the interest of public health and safety would remain in force till further notice or until such time the availability of fresh fish in Mon district was certified as safe for human consumption by the food safety officer in accordance with the regulations of the Food Safety Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Addictives) Regulation 2011 and provisions contained in the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.
DC said the ban that was imposed after taking note of numerous reports about fish vendors found selling fresh fish containing formalin in various parts of the state, which was highly toxic and injurious to health.  DC added instances of availability of such fish products in the district cannot be ruled out since almost all the fresh fish products were imported from outside the state.
