Salesian College conducts ‘Bosco quiz’, seminar

To mark the birth bi-centenary of Don Bosco, a Bosco quiz competition was organized by youth department of Salesian College Dimapur on August 30. 
In the programme, youth director Fr. Christudoss exhorted the participants that Don Bosco had wanted every young person to be God fearing, honest citizen and concerned for the welfare of the country. He also told the students that quiz was a means of sharpening the brain and improving memory power.
Salesian College Dimapur vice principal Fr. Gyan Sandeep while inaugurating the programme highlighted the need for young people to be moulded in the hands of experienced persons, to undergo certain amount of pain to chisel out the rough edges. 
The quiz competition was conducted in two sittings with a close contest from hostels and villages. The quiz had been digitalized by master of the competition Br. Gangmai Jaojijan Daniel along with Zhopa Khamo and Daikho and conducted in a befitting manner. There were six centres that made it to the final round of the competition with first position secured by MC colony, second by Wisdom Hostel and third by Hilda Hostel. 
It also stated that principal of SCD, Dr. (Fr.) Policarp Xalxo while declaring the result had extolled the participants to cultivate the habit of reading by taking the example of Don Bosco, who became a writer, educator and publisher despite insurmountable difficulties in pursuing his studies. More than 200 youth from 42 centres in and around Dimapur participated in the competition. 
Earlier, seminar on child labour was organized by the department of sociology, Salesian College of Higher Education Dimapur on August 29, to emphasize on the need to care and protect the children of the society. 
A press release by department of sociology Soreni Z. Ezung stated that head of department of sociology Unity College, assistant professor Abeni Kikon exhorted that “every one of us is called to protect the rights of the children.”
She also stressed that society need to be aware of this social evil and must “eradicate the malice from wherever we are”. Principal of Salesian College Dr. (Fr) Policarp Xalxo also spoke and said that “we need a child friendly society”. 
There were nearly 300 students at the seminar where total of five papers were presented and followed by interaction session, where students felt the necessity to pin down concrete lines of action to eradicate child labour, stated the release. It also stated that students decided to work on three principles as a follow up of the seminar, viz, be, act, educate and report.
