Salesian College of Higher Education (SCHE) Dimapur organized an anti tobacco awareness on August 12.
BDS PGD (HP) district oral health officer & nodal officer National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Dimapur, Dr. C Tetseo and social worker (NTCP), Medongunuo Pienyii were the resource persons.
While presenting power point, Dr. Tetseo said that tobacco was the only legally available consumer product which kills people when it is used entirely as intended. He pointed out that due to tobacco consumption, one million people die every year in India and added Nagaland has the second highest prevalence rate of tobacco use in the country.
Tetseo also urged the youth to stay away from tobacco so as to live long life, be free from its related diseases and live a better dignified life.
After short interaction, principal of SCHE, Dr. Fr. Policarp Xalxo thanked the resource persons, and exhorted all the students to sensitize the people about the harmful effects of the use of tobacco.
250 students and faculty of SCHE took a pledge ‘No’ to tobacco products and ‘Yes’ to good health and healthy habits. In view of making tobacco free campus, hoardings were put up and anti-tobacco committee was formed.
