DIMAPUR: State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organized a three-day training program for officers from the Department of Agriculture and ATMA functionaries on the topic “Scientific Management Practices and Health Management of Important Livestock in Nagaland” from June 16 to 18.
The inaugural programme was chaired by deputy project director, SAMETI, Janet Chishi. Delivering keynote address, director of SAMETI and principal of IETC, Bodevi Shuya, emphasized the importance of scientific livestock management in improving productivity and ensuring farmers’ livelihood. He highlighted that adopting improved practices in livestock health, feeding, and management is essential for sustainable development in the livestock sector.
The resource persons for the training were Dr. N. Savino, Associate Professor, Department of Livestock Production and Management, NU: SAS, Medziphema Campus, Dr. Tsarila Z.T. Sangtam, guest faculty, Department of Livestock Production and Management, NU: SAS, Medziphema Campus, Dr. Michael Imti, Deputy Director, Veterinary Hospital, Chumoukedima, Dr. Rosou Pohena, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Dr. Kobu Khate Senior Scientist, Livestock production and Management, NRCM, Jharnapani.
The training program covered topics on “present status and future prospects of livestock production in Nagaland, Scope and Potential of Alternative Poultry and Integrated Livestock Farming System. Livestock Diseases Management & Control measures, Livestock insurance and need of Dairy Co-operative Societies and Market Linkage, Scientific Management practices for Goat Farming, Important Scientific feeding and Fodder promotion to enhance livestock Productivity”. As a part of the training, participants were also taken for a field visit to Mithun farm, Jharnapani to gain Practical Exposure.
The three-day training program concluded with closing remarks by director SAMETI & Principal IETC, Medziphema, Bodevi Shuya, followed by distribution of certificates to all the trainees.
