Four-day training on organic farming and integrated nutrient management” was organised by extension Education Institute – North East Region (EEI – NER), Assam Agricultural University (AAU) Jorhat in collaboration with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland from the July 18 – 21 at SAMETI, Medziphema.
The main objective of the training was to impart training on simple and farmer friendly techniques of organic farming to the participants as per the requirements of the state.
The resource persons for the training program were professor EEI, Assam Agriculture University (AAU), Jorhat, Dr. A.K. Bhattacharya and professor, Department of Soil Science (AAU) Jorhat, Dr. R. Baruah.
In the training, the resource persons covered both theoretical and practical sessions on Paramparagat Krishi Vikash Yojana (PKVY), prospects of organic agriculture in north east states, raising organic nursery and organic seed production, production and application of biofertilizers as a component of organic farming.
They also gave an overview on composting-its methods of preparation and application and spoke on Participatory Guarantee System in Organic Farming (PGS), importance and cultivation technique of Azolla, practical demonstration on Azolla, INM, ways and means of organic standard in organic agriculture, identification of potential areas for adoption of organic village and potential commodities, crucial policies for successful implementation of organic village and action points at all different levels.
The valedictory function was chaired by DPD SAMETI, Vikaho Chophi, while feedback from the trainees was given by deputy director, department of agriculture, Mon, Sanuzo Nienu and BTM (ATMA), Wokha, Khyothungo Ezung.
Course Director, Dr. A.K. Bhattacharya, encouraged the trainees to impart the experience gained during the training sincerely to the clientele group- the farmers and hoped that the training programme enhance the knowledge of the officials.
The programme concluded with distribution of certificates and vote of thanks by DPD SAMETI, Tiajungla Longchar. The training was attended by officials from department of agriculture and ATMA functionaries from all districts of Nagaland.
