State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a three-day training programme for ATMA functionaries on “Biofertilizers: Efficient Use and Application” from April 28 to 30, 2026 at Medziphema.
In his inaugural address, director SAMETI and principal IETC, Bodevi Shuya, emphasised the importance of organic production through the use of biofertilizers and highlighted the role of ATMA functionaries as intermediaries in technology dissemination. He urged participants to spread awareness on the benefits of biofertilizers and pass down the knowledge to farmers.
Resource persons for the training included Dr. Sentimenla, assistant professor, Department of Soil Science, NU: SAS Medziphema Campus; Dr. Vizokhonyü Yhome, lecturer & in-charge of Bio-Fertilizer Laboratory, IETC Medziphema; and Dr. Kevineituo Bier, assistant professor, Department of Soil Science, NU: SAS Medziphema Campus.
The programme covered topics such as introduction, benefits, types and methods of application of biofertilizers, efficient use practices, crop-wise recommendations, storage and handling, and common constraints. Field visits to the state bio-lab and bio-chemistry facilities were undertaken, with practical demonstrations on seed treatment, root dipping, slurry preparation, field application methods and azolla multiplication.
The training concluded with remarks by director SAMETI & principal IETC, Bodevi Shuya, followed by distribution of certificates.
