Sand tax: State govt asked to clarify

Sand Stockiest and Sand Suppliers Association and Assam Sand Supplier and Truck Owners Association Nagaland, which discussed the issue of multiple revenue collection from the sand-laden trucks by both the forest department and geology and mining department at an emergency meeting, have appealed to the state government to “come out firmly” with its decision as to which department should collect the revenues.
In a joint press release, ASSTOAN president Anito Shohe and president SSASSA Viniho Shohe expressed strong opposition to the “illogical system of revenue collection” by both the departments on a daily basis without taking into consideration the interest of the business community.
They reaffirmed that they would not pay the revenue to any department until the government corrected the confusion.
They maintained that no one should pay the revenue twice for the same item to two different departments.
