DIMAPUR: With the aim of providing services for decent living to the farmers of Nagaland and to promote vegetable cultivation among the tribal farmers, one-day farmer’s training on “Scientific cultivation of vegetable crops” was held on March 23 at Renthan Village, Wokha district.
In a press release, School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD) Nagaland University (NU) informed that the training was conducted by AICRP on Vegetable Crops, Nagaland Centre, SASRD-NU under NEH Plan.
The training also aimed to highlight the farmers on the importance of package of practices and plant protection in vegetable production, to make them aware of the importance, benefits and advantage in growing vegetable crops in kitchen garden and also to make the farmers familiar of the common pests and diseases of vegetables which they might encounter during the cropping season and importantly to manage the pests and disease with eco-friendly tactics.
The technical session on “scientific cultivation of vegetable crops” was delivered by SMS Horticulture, KVK, Wokha, Megokhono Meyase, where she emphasized on the methodology and various ideas on production of summer vegetable crops.
The technical session on “scientific protection of vegetable crops” was delivered by assistant professor, department of entomology, SASRD-NU, Dr. Waluniba, where he enlightened the farmers on the common insect pests that attack farmer’s field and showed them the various means of identification and management.
Mokokchung: SASRD-NU Medziphema campus organised a day long training programme on “low-chilling apple production technology” on March 19 at Alichen Community Hall, Alichen under Mokokchung district.
A press release by SASRD stated that the training was held for 23 beneficiaries under NEC funded project on “promotion of low-chilling apple plantation in NER of India”.
Project in-charge, professor Akali Sema highlighted about the project and stated that NEC has taken the initiative to promote the plantation of low chilling apple in various parts of NER of India including Nagaland.
She also encouraged the farmers to put their effort to carry through the project since this was the ever first time to introduce low chilling apple in Nagaland.
