A Satellite Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) Centre was formally inaugurated at PHC Chessore Town under Shamator District on August 23, under the Office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Tuensang.
According to DIPR report, the centre was inaugurated by K. Tsusola, Associate Pastor (Women), Chessore Town Baptist Church, in the presence of medical officials, community leaders, and residents.
Speaking at the programme, Dr. Kumrimong Yimchunger, Medical Officer, PHC Chessore, emphasized that opium addiction is not merely a physical dependency but a mental health challenge. He called upon the community to foster a culture of acceptance and compassion, urging citizens to support individuals battling addiction rather than judge them.
Dr. Kumrimong expressed gratitude to the CMO Tuensang and his team for initiating what he termed a “historic landmark development” in a region long deprived of basic healthcare services. He encouraged residents of Chessore Block to make full use of the OST Centre and assured that his team remains committed to serving the community.
Dr. Senilo Magh, Psychiatrist and Nodal Officer (OST), DH Tuensang, also spoke on the importance of supporting vulnerable individuals and helping them overcome addiction-related challenges.
Short speeches were delivered by Zhelo, Village Council Chairman, Chessore; Lakiumong, Head DB, Chessore Town; and Chuba, President of Chessore Town Public Forum, all of whom welcomed the initiative and pledged community support.
Earlier, the programme began with a welcome address by Chongshen C. Chang, DPO DAPCU, Tuensang. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Chongtin Sumao, Lab Technician, PHC Chessore.
