KOHIMA, SEP 27 (NPN): Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) inaugurated “SAYO Ki”-a house constructed by the organisation-at Dzükou Valley on Saturday.
Former SAYO president Seyievilie Peter Zashümo, who inaugurated the facility, described Dzükou Valley as a God given terrain and reminded that humans, as custodians, have a responsibility to protect and sustain it. He stressed that leaders should contribute beyond their tenure by working for the long term interests of the region.
Zashümo pointed to the availability of government schemes and funds, urging clear articulation of requirements and careful choices in developmental activities. He cautioned that development should not come at the cost of the valley’s ecosystem, and emphasised the need for proper consultation before undertaking projects. He suggested that amenities such as water sources, footpaths and solar lighting could be developed without harming the environment.
SAYO president Zasitsolie Bei o expressed gratitude to the frontal organisations of the region for their support in making the project possible. He clarified that the house was constructed primarily as a lodging facility for SAYO and regional leaders. Calling the project a long cherished dream fulfilled despite financial and time constraints, he urged leaders to maintain the facility for posterity. He also informed that water storage facilities of 30,000 litres and 20,000 litres capacity had been completed.
The programme was led by Teisovi Thorie, SAYO finance secretary, with invocation by Alodi Pusa, associate pastor of Viswema Baptist Church. A special song was presented by Neilaü Thaprü, SAYO women coordinator, while Zhokedu Zhotso, health & environment secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.
Leaders from the Southern Angami Public Organisation, as well as women’s, sports and student organisations, attended the programme.
