SAYO seizes prohibited items

Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) volunteers confiscated prohibited items that were being sold at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama Monday.

SAYO president Zakeleto Tsükrü told Nagaland Post that SAYO volunteers during the surprise checking caught eight stalls selling prohibited items on the second day of the Hornbill Festival. He said that the volunteers seized foreign liquor, juice bottles, plastic bags, pan masala and others. SAYO president said that the drive was conducted in collaboration with the Tourism department to make Kisama plastic-free zone. 

Stating that Hornbill festival was to showcase traditional culture and identity of Nagas, he said Nagas need to discourage use of foreign made plastic products and promote traditional methods during the festival. 

It may be noted that SAYO has banned different kinds of plastic use during the Hornbill Festival 2019 at Kisama, such as polythene bags, transparent plastic packaging, water bottle (below 20 litres), juice bottles (below 1 litre) including tetra packs, sweets/chips/ noodles/ Pan Masala Packages, plastic/ thermocol plates, cups, spoon etc, plastic tarpaulins and plastic rope, plastic wrapping, IMFL in line with the state government order to ban on plastic use to make Hornbill Festival 2019 a plastic free and zero-waste festival.
