Sao Chang College (SCC), Tuensang, celebrated cultural day on March 11, 2025, with the theme “Culture for Future,” with the college principal, Dr. Lanurenla, as the speaker of the event.
Dr. Lanurenla in her speech highlighted the traditional values, including oral traditions like stories, folk songs, and proverbs, passed down through generations. She emphasized that traditional dresses, artifacts, and village beliefs were part of the cultural heritage.
She encouraged making culture a daily lifestyle, not just a one-day celebration, and urged students to promote local craftsmanship and support local entrepreneurs. She informed that culture was dynamic, not static, and not all aspects of the past were passed down or practiced. She encouraged students to develop a college culture based on wellness, unity, inclusivity, hospitality, honesty, and hard work.
She emphasized the importance of a healthy mind and body for academic success and respecting parents. She advised students to avoid intoxicating substances and instead adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Earlier, the first session was compered by Khingasipa, invocation by president, Khuloi E.U., welcome address by cultural secretary, Sangmaiyenla, vote of thanks by Assistant Professor, Hotoni Yeptho, and a benediction by Assistant Professor, K. Vidla Jing.
The program featured various cultural items, including folk songs, folk dances, cultural attire displays, top spinning, yarn spinning, war cries, fire making, and bamboo climbing activities.
