To mark the International Arts Education Week (IAEW) 2015, declared by the UNESCO on the theme ‘Folk Tunes of Nagaland’, a programme was organized at SCERT, Conference Hall on May 29 with Pro Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Prof. A. Lanunungsang Ao as chief guest.
In his speech, Prof. A. Lanunungsang Ao said celebrating the International Arts Education week was an important event and it should remind all to respect culture and tradition by upholding the dignity of culture and realizing the importance of arts education.
Congratulating the SCERT for taking up wise decision to introduce the arts education in the school, Professor said in the context of the Naga and the North Eastern region “we should be proud of ourselves that God has blessed us with wonderful talents in the field of agriculture, customs and Institution.”
According to an official bulletin, the chief guest also encouraged the gathering to honour the village environment and respect the village elders, which was all arts education in “our customary practice.”
He said that to uphold the strong working system of the social organization and to do something new in this generation, one should maintain unity, rich culture and custom.
NU pro VC asserted that “we should not forget to inculcate the importance aspect of life and to value education.” He also reminded not to forget the village art education system so one could continuously go up to the higher level “to exhibit the world what we are today.”
SCERT director Vipralhou Kesiezie gave the introductory speech. Several tribes from Nagaland performed different items of folk song, traditional music, duet, poem recitation and traditional parade was also performed by the teacher trainees DIET Chiechama. Traditional attires were also displayed at ECCE Hall SCERT.
