SCHE Dimapur celebratesannual cultural day

In a vibrant celebration of tradition and community spirit, Salesian College of Higher Education (SCHE), Dimapur marked its Annual Cultural Day on March 31 at the Salesian Ground under the theme “Together through Tradition.” The event was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in collaboration with the Department of Sociology and the Student Forum.
The programme began with an invocation by Rector, Rev. Fr. Dr. Elow Samuel, followed by a welcome address from Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Paul Punii. The Guest of Honour, podcaster and political commentato, R. Lungleng, exhorted the students to embrace patience and hard work as the pillars of success. He challended them to look beyond “pass marks” and strive for academic excellence, while also encouraging the development of critical and rational thinking skills, noting that the true value of education lies in the ability to solve real-life problems and navigate the complexities of the modern world.
The morning session, “Cultural Melody,” featured captivating performances including the Rih Laam Rongmei Cultural Dance and a striking “Runway of Heritage” fashion showcase. The event also highlighted the region’s oral traditions through folktale narration and showcased the richness of local gastronomy with a dedicated tribal cuisine display.
A major highlight was the Traditional Games segment, where students competed in various indigenous sports categorized for men and women. These activities ranging from ancestral skills like fire-making and spear jumping to traditional domestic arts like yarn rolling and winnowing served to test the physical prowess and cultural knowledge of the participants while fostering a sense of camaraderie.
The celebration concluded with a closing ceremony, leaving the campus filled with a renewed sense of pride and unity.
