Scindia calls for completion of DoNER, NEC projects in Mnp

CorrespondentIMPHAL, Jul 11

Union minister of development of north eastern region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Friday encouraged the Manipur government to expedite completions of various developmental projects being taken up in the state under his ministry.
The Union DoNER minister virtually co-chaired a review meeting with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Balla held at Imphal Raj Bhavan and assessed the progress of key development projects in the state under the Union ministry of DoNER and NEC.
The joint review meeting focused on priority sectors including handloom & handicrafts, polo promotion, tourism, connectivity, palm oil cultivation, logistics, investment promotion, and vibrant village development.
While co-chairing the review meeting, the Union minister shared his observations when state chief secretary PK Singh presented a comprehensive progress report of the ongoing projects and associated challenges, Raj Bhavan said in a statement.
Based on the discussions held during the previous meeting on April 17, 2025, the chief secretary revisited several priority areas.
These included handloom, handicrafts, and textiles; the promotion of polo, tourism development, transport and connectivity improvements, palm oil cultivation under the NMEO-OP, logistics strengthening; investment promotion in Manipur, development of vibrant villages, monitoring of PMO-priority projects, and the completion of distressed projects under DoNER and the North Eastern Council (NEC).
Following the presentation, Union minister Scindia offered feedback on each point, encouraging state officials to expedite completions.
Manipur Governor AK Balla also directed all concerned officials to accelerate implementation efforts and to remain focused on achieving tangible outcomes, the statement said.
The meeting was attended by the secretary to the Governor, the principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) and senior administrative secretaries besides officials from the North Eastern Council, who joined via video conference.
Manipur is currently under the direct administration of the Centre after President’s Rule (PR) was imposed in the state on February 13 last, four days after N Biren Singh tendered his resignation as the chief minister of the state on February 9.
While imposing the PR, the state Assembly has been put under suspended animation.
The imposition of PR came amid the blame on the BJP-led government in the state and the Centre for their inability to end the violent crisis that has been besieging the state for the last more than two years.
The violent crisis has claimed the lives of more than 260 people while rendering homeless to more than 60,000 people whose houses were either torched or vandalized after the violence erupted.
