SCPD Court orders NIOS to train staff

To ensure that students with disabilities were not subjected to discrimination or harassment during examinations, the court of State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD) has directed regional director, National Institute of Open School (NIOS), to conduct training and sensitisation programmes for staff, especially centre superintendents and invigilators.
In a press release, programme officer, office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities said the court issued order following a complaint filed in State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Court that one of the students at Deaf Biblical Ministry, School for the Deaf, Dimapur, with hearing impairment, faced discrimination at the examination centre on April 23, 2022.
Though the case was withdrawn by the complainant, the court observed that the grievances must be addressed.
The court said such incidents reflected upon the ignorance of centre superintendents and invigilators.
The court recommended the regional director to take necessary steps and actions to “educate” those persons in the field, especially centre superintendents and invigilators.
