SDGCC inspects ‘SusDesi’ project

SDG Coordination Centre (SDGCC) team, planning and coordination department inspected the SDG innovation project sites of “SusDesi” and “pilot operation of a waste-to-protein treatment facility” in Dimapur on February 2, to review the progress of work.
According to a DIPR report, the “SusDesi” project with implementing partner-LiFE created a sustainable way of tackling waste disposal dilemma at Lake View Colony, Dimapur, directly involving the community.
The project has sensitised the community at Lake View area on waste segregation and management and has introduced door-to-door waste collection, introduced vermicomposting practices in the household and set up non-recyclable wastes.
A material recovery facility has also been set up to store recyclable waste. The project has also created an employment avenue to the unemployed youth in the locality, the release stated.
The report informed that under the pilot operation of a waste-to-protein treatment facility project, implementation by Jongpong Chiten and Dr. Akumtoshi Lkr, a breeding facility for rearing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) was set up at Bank Colony, Dimapurto test Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) process on various organic waste streams and determine the feasibility of BSF farming in Nagaland as means for sustainable organic waste treatment.
The projects are part of the “SDG Innovation Participatory Action Research Initiative” to implement innovative solutions for addressing on-ground specific challenges which would contribute towards the achievement of SDG Vision 2030.
