Chairman of Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) Bhandari, Achumbemo Kikon, has informed that the ongoing construction of the Foothill Road within Bhandari subdivision be expedited for completion by December 2025.
According to DIPR report, Kikon, who chaired the monthly SDPDB meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Summer House-cum-Guest House, Bhandari on September 11, stated that once completed, the road would serve as a hassle-free “home road” for public commuters.
SDO (R&B), PWD Bhandari, Er. Elithung Ovung, informed that construction is currently underway across a 39-kilometre stretch, including bridge works. He added that progress in certain locations has been affected by monsoon rains.
During the meeting, the House resolved to urge the government to establish permanent outposts for Nagaland Police or Nagaland Armed Police in strategic border areas of the subdivision. It also called for improved power supply and accommodation facilities for IRB personnel stationed at Liphayan and Tchujanphen villages.
Chairman of Ralan Area Lotha Hoho, C.S. Ovung, acknowledged the logistical support extended by local villages to security personnel. The House also deliberated on shifting the existing police check post from Bhandari town to Merapani Village (Marachu Yan) for better coverage.
Principal of Government Higher Secondary School Bhandari, L. Tiameren Longkumer, raised concerns over the prolonged shortage of a language teacher and Informatics Practices teacher. The House resolved to urge the concerned departments to address the issue without delay.
Further discussions included a proposal to streamline the Baghty sub-treasury as the financial centre of the subdivision by empowering departmental offices with Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs). Upgradation of power supply to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Bhandari and renovation of the Northern Sumi Guest House were also approved.
