Following the conclusion of the polling process for elections to Municipal and Town council in three districts– Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland, Commissioner of Police Kevithuto Sophie has partially relaxed the prohibitory orders with effect from 7 a.m. till 5 p.m. of June 27.
Since post poll violence cannot be ruled out under DMC/EDTC/CTC/MTC/NTC, CP said that Section 144 CrPC shall continue to be enforced from 5 p.m. of June 27 till 7 a.m. of June 28 to prevent any violence, which may breach public peace and law & order.
As per the order, assembly in group of five or more persons in public places within the jurisdiction of Dimapur Municipal Council/East Dimapur Town Council/Chümoukedima Town Council/Medziphema Town Council/Niuland Town Council has been prohibited. CP also banned holding any public meeting, procession or any unlawful assembly in connection with election.
CP further banned carrying lethal weapons and firearms in public places including lathis, machete/dao, daggers, sticks, swords and catapult, Carrying of flammable objects has been banned, adding that it may danger public life and property.
No one is allowed to use PA system in an public places to cause public annoyance or disturbance.
Any individual or group found in contravention of the order would be liable for punitive action under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code and the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, CP warned.
