Following the notification of elections to the Urban Local Bodies scheduled to be held on June 26, the State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday said that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force till the completion of the poll process.
In a notification, State Election Commissioner TJ Longkumer said that the model code for the guidance of political parties and candidates and adopted by the SEC, comes into operation with immediate effect within the entire Municipal and Town Council areas going to poll, till the completion of the election. MCC shall be applicable to all candidates, political parties in the state and the state government, it said.
The notification stated that polling for three municipal councils and 36 town councils will be held on June 26, 2024 between 7.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and counting and declaration of results on June 29.
The period of filing of nomination will be from June 7 to 11 upto 3 p.m. The list of validly presented nomination papers shall be posted on June 12. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on June 13 and last date of withdrawal of candidature will be June 20. It also said that the list of validly nominated candidates shall be posted on June 14. The list of contesting candidates and polling stations will be posted on June 20.
It also said that application for revision of the order of authority scrutinizing the nomination would be done between June 15-18, upto 3 p.m.
Electoral roll: SEC said that the electoral roll for the ensuing elections shall be the roll with reference to January 1, 2024 as the qualifying date and finally published on April 12 2024 along with subsequent amendments, if any, made thereto as per Rule 14 (1) of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules 2023. This will be applicable to the 25 municipalities under the districts of Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Chümoukedima, Niuland, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu, Wokha and Zunheboto.
For the 14 municipalities in the districts of Mon, Longleng, Noklak, Tuensang, Shamator and Kiphire, SEC said there were nil claims and objections during the Special Summary Revision of electoral roll scheduled from March 8 to April 12, 2024 thereby resulting in nil revision. Therefore, the existing electoral roll as finally published on November 24, 2022, along with any subsequent amendments made in accordance with the aforementioned rule, shall remain operational.
