The Second Patkai Trophy (Golden Jubilee Edition), an inter-institution championship, organized by Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), in collaboration with LiveNow events, kicked off on February 29.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest at the inaugural programme, Director, Life Ministries, and Vice President, Nagaland Football Association (NFA), Colo Mero, highlighted the paramount importance of prioritizing one’s health, emphasizing the significance of placing health as the top priority. He stated “Your health comes first; profession, business, education comes second”.
Dwelling on the realm of sports in the state, Mero lamented the discouragement of sports in Nagaland, pointing out that even those with Olympic-level potential were pressured to focus solely on academics.
Acknowledging sports as one of the world’s largest industries, Mero expressed disappointment that, in Nagaland, it was perceived merely as a pastime.
Despite these challenges, he however recognized the positive aspect of such tournaments to fostering unity, friendship, and providing opportunities for fellowship.
Encouraging perseverance, Mero urged the community not to give up on organizing and participating in such events, emphasizing their role in building a sense of togetherness and camaraderie.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Songaror Horam, invocation offered by Chaplain, PCC, Rev Dr Vichukhu Ngukha, and welcome address by Dean of Students, PCC, Wetshete Thopi.
Special song was present by Margaret Shishak School of Music, PCC, while vote of thanks delivered by Ilung Haikupe and benediction offered by Girls Hostel Warden, PCC, Viravonuo Meyase.
It can be noted that 25 educational institutions from across the state would be participating in the event to be held from February 29 to March 2.
