While recovering a cylindrical pressure mechanism IED (Improvised Explosive Device) with 10 kg explosive, security forces in Manipur also nabbed 10 cadres of different armed outfits, including two female cadres, in separate operations in the last two days.
The security forces in the restive state have been conducting search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts aimed at curbing the circulation of illegal arms and explosives in sensitive areas of the state besieged by a protracted violent crisis.
The police, in its daily law and order update said that the cylindrical pressure mechanism IED with 10 kg explosive was recovered from Sijang (Kuki village) to Sanamahi Temple (Meitei worship place) in the vicinity of Naga village, Lamna Kabui under Churachandpur police station of Churachandpur district on February 13.
The IED was safely destroyed by a bomb disposal team in presence of representatives of 2 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) and Churachandpur police, the police added.
As many as 10 cadres linked to different armed outfits including two female cadres of PLA (People Liberation Army), the armed wing of Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) were also nabbed in other operations during the last two days, the police said.
Four of the cadres, including the two female cadres, were linked to the PLA, while three belonged to PREPAK (Pro) faction and one each to a KCP faction, KYKL and UKNA (United Kuki National Front).
The two female PLA cadres were apprehended from the general area of Indo-Myanmar border in between Sunrise ground and Gate No. 2 of border town Moreh under Moreh police station of Tengnoupal district on February 14.
The police identified them as Akoijam Sakhenbi (23) of Khoijuman Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur district and Chongtham Hembaby (17) of Yumnam Huidrom Wangoi of Imphal West district.
On the same day, security forces arrested two more active cadres of RPF/PLA including a self-styled lieutenant of the banned outfit in another operation at Pechi Khunou in Thoubal district.
The alleged self-style lieutenant was identified as Mayanglambam Kiran Singh @ Shanti @ Boipu (47) of Ukhongshang Mayai Leikai while the other as Wairokpam Sanahal Meitei @ Nongdamba (46) of Yairipok Khoirom Mathak Leikai of Thoubal district.
The three active cadres of PREPAK (Pro) were arrested in separate operations in Imphal East district on February 14, the police said.
A small arm was also recovered from one of the cadres identified as Ingudam Ingocha Singh (50) @ Borobi of Seijang Makha Leikai. He was arrested from Napetpalli area under Lamlai police station of Imphal East district.
A .32 pistol loaded with five live rounds, 10 PREPAK (Pro) visiting cards, one Honda Activa scooter and a sum of Rs 600 also recovered from his possession, the police source said.
The security forces arrested an active cadre of KCP (Apunba) identified as Khetics Thongbam (19) of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai from his residence in Imphal West district in another operation on February 14. The active cadre of KYKL – Khumanthem Santosh Meitei (36) @ Kanta of Heirok Part-I was arrested during an operation at Kairembikhok Mamang Leikai under Thoubal police station of Thoubal district on February 13. The UKNA cadre who the police described as “extortionist” was nabbed from Matijang village under Churachandpur police station of Churachandpur district on February 13.
A country made 9 mm pistol with three live rounds was seized from the cadre identified as Lunjakai Vaiphei (20) of T Lhangkichoi village of Churachandpur district.
Meanwhile, Manipur police arrested two individuals involved in a series of mobile phone thefts, cyber frauds, and related crimes across the Senapati and Imphal West districts.
They were identified as Linai Mercy (19) of Thingba Khunou village and Siipfiine (18) of Phuba Khuman village of Senapati district, the police said. Apart from the intelligence base operation to curb the illegal arm network, the security forces, comprising Central and state agencies, were also cracking down on extortion activities with extensive operations.
