
Commemorating “International day of clean air for blue skies”, a seedling distribution cum community plantation drive under the theme, “Healthy Air, Healthy Planet” was held on September 6-7 under the initiative of Silviculture Division Department of Environment Forests and Climate Change Forest Department.
A press release by the department stated that the plantation drive was carried out within the vicinity of Forest Colony Children Park, Kohima by the staffs of Silviculture division.
The department stated that the seedling distribution programme was observed with the objective to mitigate and control air pollution and to help sensitise the community about the significance of planting trees for a cleaner and healthy air.
Subsequently, a joint plantation drive in collaboration with Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) was carried out at KMC land fill, Lerie. The department informed that suitable species for landslide prone area were planted in correspondence with other fruit and ornamental species where the idea was to create a green belt plantation around the city area so as to help control air pollution and provide a clean air to the city.
