Seemanta Chetana Mancha Purvottar (SCMP) organised its state convention at hotel Japfü, on September 9.
Speaking as chief guest, advisor for Law & Justice and Land Revenue, TN Mannen, SCMP for safeguarding the border of Nagaland from cross-border terrorism, anti-social elements and smugglers especially in the international border since 2017.
He said Nagaland has a long and porous International Border all along Eastern side of the state stretching from Manipur to Arunachal Pradesh. He pointed out that unless security force as well as the inhabitant of the border areas cooperate and stay vigil to prevent and discourage anti-national activities, it would be vulnerable and a threat to national security.
With the neighbour Myanmar in turmoil due to military junta anti-democratic harsh measures against the people of democratic elements, he said Nagas need to be more alert.
He said the cross-border area vulnerability was compounded by lack of developmental activities of both infrastructure as well as economic development.
He said both central and state govemments were aware of the need to address the special need of the areas along the Border areas.
In this regard he said the governments had taken up establishment of International Trade Centre at various locations including Awangkhu, Phangsha, Longwa (Mon District).
He said due to Covid shutdown, followed by turmoil in Myanmar, all trading activities were disfunctional at the moment however all these hold potentials for the future.
Mannen pointed out that government of India’s East to Act East Policy has a lot of promises for socio- political as well as economic development of South East Asia but affected due to political instability in the neighbouring country.
He assured all possible help and also wished the organisation all the best in its endeavours.
The inaugural programme began with an invocation pastor, Yimkhiung Baptist Church Kohima, Wongtokiu Yimkhiung while welcome address was delivered by president, SCMP Nagaland, S Kihomong Yim.
Short speeches were delivered by chairman, Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation, Kuputho Shohe and convenor, Seema Jagran Manch, A Gopalakrishnan.
A special number was presented by Manpei Konyak. The program was compered by Loyong Wangnaolem.
