For the third consecutive year, Seiyhama Village in Kohima district will be hosting the Organic King Chilli – Naga Mircha Festival 2024 on September 6 at Cultural Hall Seiyhama.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at Kohima Press Club on August 30. The festival will be graced by director of Horticulture, Meyasashi, as guest of honor.

Savio Metha, General Secretary of the organizing committee, highlighted that attendees can purchase a variety of products including dry and fresh king chillies, pounded and pickled items, as well as organic vegetables and fruits. He also mentioned that king chillies in tin boxes will be offered at prices lower than the market rate.

Food stalls will be available for visitors to savor the cuisine of Seiyhama Village. The festival will also include such as king chili eating contests and traditional games like bamboo walking, bamboo climbing, war cry, and catapult shooting.

The organizers announced that the competition will be opened to everyone, with cash prizes awarded to the winners. Additionally, prizes will be given for the highest production of king chilies and the best quality among cultivators.

This year, the organizers expect to showcase around 2,500 kilograms, nearly equivalent to 700 tins, of king chilies at the festival. Kevineizo Zumu, Information and Publicity Secretary, said that the festival was initiated in 2022 by village leaders who made a firm commitment to collaborate with the king chili growers of Seiyhama Village to create a unique event.

Lhoulalie Zumu, the festival’s convener and chairman, shared information about Seiyhama Village and mentioned that the village has four varieties of Raja mircha, distinguished by their color variations. The event will be sponsored by Horticulture Department.
