Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Ambassador Trainings for government school teachers was reconvened virtually from July 28 to August 1. The event saw a participation of over 200 government school teachers from across Nagaland. The program aimed to deepen teachers’ engagement with SEL practices and reinforce their shared commitment to holistic, inclusive education.
Organized by the Department of School Education (DoSE) in collaboration with Dream a Dream, the training was conducted in four batches, with each session spanning three hours. Teachers who had previously completed Phase 1, Phase 2, and Refresher sessions, and remained active in bi-monthly campaigns and webinars, reconvened to reflect on their growth, reconnect with peers, and realign their purpose amid growing academic and emotional demands.
The sessions were formally inaugurated by senior DoSE officials: Deenabandhu Panda (Additional Director), Mary Neilhouvonuo (Deputy Director), Gloria Ezung (Assistant Director), and Imtisangla (Assistant Director). They commended the teachers’ dedication and highlighted SEL’s critical role in fostering inclusive and caring classrooms, particularly for students from challenging backgrounds. The initiative aligns strongly with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and its focus on holistic student development.
The two-day training featured a blend of experiential learning, creative expression, and reflective dialogue. Day 1 focused on building connection and trust through narrative sharing and small group discussions. Day 2 encouraged deeper introspection through arts-based activities like poetry, doodling, and mind mapping, helping teachers explore emotional well-being and reimagine safe, student-centered classroom practices.
This ongoing initiative aims to revitalize the SEL Ambassador community and strengthen their role in nurturing environments where every child feels seen, heard, and empowered to thrive.
