KVK Dimapur, in collaboration with National Institute of Design (NID), Guwahati, has organized training cum awareness seminar on “Banana fiber product designs” at KVK Training Hall, ICAR Jharnapani, Medziphema, on February 21 with Joint Director of ICAR Nagaland Centre, Dr. Bidyut C Deka, as the chief guest and resource persons from the National Institute of Design, Guwahati.
The programme was conducted under the initiative of SMS Home-science, V Kenny Rhetso, and SRF (DBT) ICAR, Vinika K Aomi, with an aim to create awareness among the artisans about the various products from banana, ramie and pineapple leaf fiber.
During the inauguration, Deka highlighted the importance of self reliance to generate income and encouraged the participants to explore avenues of this new technology. Programme Coordinator KVK Dimapur, Dr. Anamika Sharma, has appealed the farmers to work sincerely and to utilize the facility provided by ICAR for better livelihood.
Coordinator, NID for North East, Guwahati, Sheikh Nilufar shared different design project schemes of the Institute. Designer, NID, Guwahati, Julee Deori, spoke on the extraction, quality and design of the banana fiber products. Designer from NID, Guwahati, Miss Trisna, spoke on product diversification from the customer perspective of banana fiber products and designer, while Himangshu gave a presentation on existing designs and marketing of products.
Altogether 34 participants of Jharnapani, Kukidolong and Molvom attended the programme.
