Seminar on ‘benefits of developing reading habit’

A seminar on “benefits of developing a reading habit” was organised by Students Union Aoyimkum Dimapur (SUAD), powered by Readers Club Dimapur (RCD) and Books on Wheels Social Enterprise (BWSE) Aoyimkum at the Aoyimkum Panchayat Hall, Thursday.
Speaking as the guest speaker, proprietor, publisher and chief editor, Heritage Publishing House, Dr Lanusangla Tzüdir said one of the most beneficial habits an individual could have was reading.
Stressing on the benefits of reading, Dr. Tzüdir said it helps a person to gain knowledge, trigger ideas, improves focus and memory, empathize, develop communication skill, sharpens memory among other personal development and societal progress.
Expressing concern over the diminishing reading habits in recent years, she said though, in the past, books were not readily available, many individuals instilled the habit of reading and took pride in their habit.
Pointing out that the present generation have sufficient and easy access to reading materials or books, Dr. Tzüdir encouraged the young people to imbibe the habit of reading. She also cited the examples of many successful people and world leaders who have inculcated the habit of reading.
Stating that a community was determined by genre of books they read, she advised the gathering to choose wisely, adding “what you are reading will decide you”.
Citing her own example, Dr. Tzüdir said her reading habit influenced her to open the Heritage Publication House. She then stressed on how a habit could become a lifestyle and help earn a livelihood, if habits were chosen wisely.
The programme was chaired by Medemyangla, invocation by associate pastor youth, ABA, Aoliba Imchen and welcome address was delivered by SUAD president, Limatemjen.
