Seminar on Herbal Drug Research

Regional Ayurveda Research Centre organised one day national seminar on recent advances in Herbal Drug Research in reference to Ayurveda and Pharmacovigilance of ASU&H Drugs, on Saturday, here at Hotel Saramati.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Assistant Director AYUSH & CEO/MS, SMPB, directorate of H&FW, Kohima, Dr. T Bendangtula, stressed on the important role of herbal treatment, when modern medicine was not able to take care of whole canvas of dieses or ailments the mankind was facing. Although medical sector have made advancements, people were still struggling with a lot of dieses, she said.
Dr Bendangtula also supplemented that even medical science have understood the need to have an alternative while highlighting the recent development and shift to alternative system of medicine.
She cited example of cosmetic industry and green tea moving towards “organic products”.
She opined that Ayush has many roles in this scenario, as 90% of medicine source were from plant kingdom.
Dr Bendangtula also reminded the gathering that the oldest system of medical science started 5000 years back in India, before Allopathy came. She therefore urged all to realise benefit of Ayurveda, and expressed hope that the students would take the opportunity of the seminar to learn more about herbal drug.
Meanwhile, short speeches were delivered by deputy director, RCFC-NER, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, Assam, Dr Lanusunep, Asst director (Chem), CCRAS, New Delhi, Dr Ravindra Singh and principal scientist, Asso. Prof., & head, Chemical Sciences &Technology Division, CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat Assam, Dr Archana Moni das.
In the scientific session research officer (Bot), medicinal plant research section, CCRAS, New Delhi, Dr Siddamallayya, spoke on the topic, “the present and future need of medicinal plant in Indian system of medicine”, Asst director (Chem), CCRAS, New Delhi, Dr Ravindra Singh, on the topic, “Standardization and quality control of Ayurvedic drugs”, while Asso Prof, department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, NIPER, Guwahati Assam, Dr VGM Naidu, spoke on the topic, “Bioactivity studies on medicinal plants”.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by research officer in charge, Regional Ayurveda Research Centre, Dimapur, Dr Vilas Gangurde, and keynote address was delivered online by deputy director general, CCRAS, New Delhi, Dr N Srikanth.
