Seminar on ‘mental health awareness’ in Chümoukedima

A seminar on “mental health awareness” was jointly organised by District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) Dimapur and Chümoukedima Town Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship on July 8 at Town Baptist Church, Chümoukedima.
A press release by DMHP Dimapur informed that during the seminar, clinical psychologist, DMHP Dimapur, Kikruwheno Terhuja, while presenting an overview on mental health, stated that WHO defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of diseases and infirmities. She shared some of the signs of a good mental health and further stated that stress was one of the main triggers for mental illness.
Terhuja said simple ways to deal with stress was to prioritize the work being organized, having a hobby, developing a support system, and regulating use of social media platforms.
Psychiatrist and nodal officer, DMHP Dimapur Dr Temsuyanger highlighted the gathering on some of the common symptoms of mental and psychological disorders. Speaking at the programme, SDO (C) Chümoukedima, Temsuchuba, said as per mental health survey conducted in 2016, 14% of Chümoukedima’s population required mental health treatment. He further shared that one of the best ways to have mental stability was to have good relationship with God. Opening remarks and invocation was offered by Pastor Chakhesang Baptist Church, Chümoukedima, Teiciesalhou Denuh while benediction was pronounced by Town Baptist Church, Chümoukedima Pastor, Neingusazo Kire.
