A daylong seminar on “Quality Education in Chakhesang Areas: Focus on Elementary Level” was held on September 27 at the Pioneers Complex Conference Hall, Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) Mission Centre, Pfutsero. The seminar was organised by the Chakhesang Scholars’ Forum (CSF) in collaboration with the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO).
Resource persons for the session included Dr. Povotso Lohe, Advocate, Gauhati High Court (Kohima Bench) and former lecturer, Kohima College, and Rev. Dr. Phuveyi Dozo, president, United College of Theology and Mission and former general secretary, NBCC.
CSF chairman, Dr. Zavise Rume, stated that the seminar—third in a series following earlier sessions at Phek and Kohima—aimed to gather insights from scholars, educators and thinkers to improve the quality of school education, particularly at the primary level.
CPO treasurer, Wepekha Wetsah, highlighted the issue of unemployment and stressed the importance of early career orientation and preserving local dialects.
Dr. Lohe emphasised a multifaceted approach to education, stating that quality education must promote inclusivity, equity and curiosity, supported by strong curriculum, infrastructure and teaching standards.
Rev. Dr. Dozo proposed seven models for quality education, including teacher commitment, parent-teacher partnership, work-oriented learning and modernised teaching systems.
Presentations on the education system in Phek, Chozuba and Pfutsero were delivered by Sheveto Vese, Joseph Lohe and Akole Sami. Dr. Tsutshowe-ü Sekhamo and Dr. Gideon Phesao of CSF presented statistical data on school education in Chakhesang areas, acknowledging contributions from SDEOs of Phek, Pfutsero and Chozuba, NBSE and RD departments.
The seminar featured technical sessions moderated by CSF joint secretary Rukuzo Ruho, with the introductory session chaired by Wepekhro Wetsah, Assistant Professor, Pfutsero Government College. Invocation was pronounced by CBCC Executive Secretary, Chekrovei Cho-o. Educators, scholars, leaders and students actively participated in the discussions.
