A one -day national seminar (Hybrid mode) on the theme “Sustainable Rural Development, Climate Change and Food Security” organised by Research and Development Cell, Dimapur Government College, sponsored by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and supported by IQAC, Dimapur Government College was held at the Seminar Hall, Dimapur Government College on January 31, 2025.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr Yelhi Vero, convenor, RDC & Asst. Professor, dept of Economics DGC and welcome address was delivered by Prof Sanjay Sharma, principal, DGC.
Delivering keynote address, Sarat Kumar Behera, AGM, NABARD Dimapur highlighted the functioning of NABARD across the 28 Indian states. He deliberated on the activities of NABARD in Nagaland wherein he informed that NABARD had opened branches in three districts of Nagaland and the rest of the districts were covered by the NABARD, Dimapur branch.
NABARD also engage in rural development, spring rejuvenation in partnership with NGOs, developing tribal development projects, contributing towards climate change, food security and assistance to start ups towards developing technologies which are benefitting the farmers, he said.
A theme introduction on the topic “Conservation of Agriculture for Rural Development and Climate Change in NER of India” was taken up by Dr Bonti Gogoi, Agronomy Specialist, KVK Nagaon, Assam.
The first technical session was chaired by Dr Herali Achumi, Asst Professor, dept of Sociology, DGC and the resource person was Dr Rudra Narayan Bokakati, Scientist (Entemology )AICRP on Rapeseed and Mustard, AAU-Zonal Research Station, Shillongani, Assam Agricultural University, Nagaon delivered the talk online on the topic ‘Eco Friendly Approaches to Sustainable and Greener Future’.
A parallel session was held offline which was chaired by Dr A. Sentiyula, Assoc Prof. & Head, dept of English, DGC and the papers were presented by 14 research interns of various departments of DGC along with their Supervisors.
The second technical session was chaired by Sedevino, Assoc Prof & Head, dept of Political Science, DGC and the resource person was Dr N. Khumdemo Ezung, Chief Technical Officer, KVK, Wokha who spoke on the topic “Organic Farming for Sustainable Agricultural Development and Food Security”.
The valedictory programme was chaired by Dr Amongla N Jamir, Asst. Professor, dept of Political Science and the closing remarks was delivered by Dr Vinyuhu Lhoungu, Coordinator, IQAC & Asst. Professor, dept of Economics, DGC. Certificates were distributed to the participants and the seminar ended with a vote of thanks by Imkongmenla Longkumer, member RDC & Asst Professor, dept of Commerce, DGC.
