Seminar on water crisis held

The Kohima district level science seminar on the topic “Water crisis on earth-problem and remedies” was held Wednesday at Mezhür Higher Secondary School Kohima with additional director of School Education, Khevito Sema, as the chief guest. The seminar was organized by the District Education Officer Kohima.
Speaking at the programme, Khevito Sema stressed on the major water crises faced by people. He said “though the earth is enveloped with water, there is a water crisis because there is only 0.5% of water available for human consumption.” Sema further asserted that portable water should be used only for consumption and not for other use.
Altogether 16 students participated from 15 different schools under Kohima district. The first position in the seminar was bagged by Ruguonuo Ruth Vizo, Class 9, from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School; while Ropfekrole-ü Koza, Class 9 from Mezhür Higher Secondary School and Pele George Class 10, G. Rio School got second and third positions respectively.
The panel of judges included Daniel Thong, lecturer, DIET; Y. Singh, lecturer NCTE; and Bharat Prasad, teacher, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School. The winners of the district level competition will participate in the state level science seminar which will be held on September 9 at Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima.
