Senapati all set to welcome Muivah today

CorrespondentIMPHAL, OCT 28

Manipur’s Senapati town is set to roll out the red carpet for NSCN(IM) general secretary Th Muivah who is scheduled to arrive in the town on October 29.
Muivah is currently at his native Somdal village in Ukhrul district, will be visiting the Senapati district headquarters before concluding his week-long stay in Manipur.
After a grueling October 22 of travel and public events, the NSCN (IM) leader is reportedly spending time with his family, clan and tribe to make up for a 61-year absence from his birthplace.
He will be visiting Senapati on October 29 to attend an event and then fly to Dimapur in Nagaland the same day.
A grand civic reception event is being organized at Senapati district headquarters on his historic visit in the district under the joint aegis of the United Naga Council (UNC) Naga People’s Organization (NPO).
Reports culled out from the district headquarters stated that decorations, traditional displays, and welcome banners all along the major roads across the town transformed the district headquarters.
Ahead of the scheduled visit, the UNC has announced a “Genna” – a complete suspension of all commercial and economic activities – in the district while urging all tribes belonging to the Naga fold to join in the event as a show of unity and solidarity.
The event organizers were expecting thousands of people from across Naga-inhabited areas converging at the venue (Senapati Stadium) to extend a rousing welcome to the revolutionary leader.
The public reception event will begin with a ceremonial reception at the helipad, where Muivah will be welcomed by UNC officials, tribe hoho presidents, and representatives from various organizations including ANSAM, NWU, and NSCN.
A human chain of well-wishers representing different tribes will line the route from the helipad to the venue, accompanied by traditional chants, folk music, and an escort by the Royal Brothers Motorcycle Club.
Choir performances and presentations from leaders of as many as 21 tribes within Naga fold and messages from apex civil society groups will be the main highlights of the event.
NPO President Kuba Peter will deliver the welcome address as per the programme list.
Well ahead of the scheduled event, CSOs including NPO have announced strict observance of Genna across Senapati district.
In its directive, the NPO has asked all government and private institutions, including banks to remain close for the day while calling for suspension of all business operations, transport services, and agricultural work for the day, except for essential household cooking.
There will be restriction in normal vehicular movement in the town with exemption for emergency and essential services such as medical aid, fire response, media, and power supply.
The Senapati district administration has also issued a detailed traffic advisory to manage the expected traffic chaos due to convergence of visitors.
Vehicular movement and parking will be prohibited from the helipad to the venue, and the Senapati town main market has been declared a “No Parking Zone.”
There will be a temporary halt of movement of heavy vehicles at Mao Gate and Hengbung between 6 am and 2 pm on Wednesday.
Only vehicles with car passes or those using the designated shuttle services will be allowed entry into the town.
Meanwhile, Times of Senapati reported that the UNC, in its public invitation, called upon all Naga communities to attend the event, describing it as a symbol of unity and collective aspiration for self-determination based on the Naga people’s unique history and identity.
It expressed hope that the reception will inspire renewed solidarity, peace, and progress across Naga territories, it further reported.
