Minister of Rural Development and SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, inaugurated the Ao Senso Telungjem Dimapur (ASTD) “Senden Riju” at Purana Bazaar, Dimapur on Saturday while the monolith was unveiled by former minister, S.I. Jamir. The programme was organised by the Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (DAYO), who were also entrusted with the responsible for raising funds and for the construction of the building.
He was accompanied by advisor for Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer; advisor for Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, A. Pangjung Jamir; Nuklutoshi Longkumer MLA and former minister S.I. Jamir.
The newly inaugurated Senden Riju is envisioned as a platform for community gatherings, celebrations, and events. The land for the hall was donated by S.I. Jamir and Nungshienba.
In his address, Metsubo expressed deep appreciation to all contributors and elders who made the project possible. He highlighted the sacrifices made by forefathers who helped settle the community in Dimapur, and reminded everyone to stay connected to their roots. He said the Senden Riju was the first of its kind and encouraged its use for meaningful purposes. He also called on the Ao community to uphold unity, truth, and cultural preservation.
Advisor Moatoshi described the hall as a blessing and symbol of Ao pride and heritage. Reflecting on past achievements, he urged the community to overcome internal divisions and focus on progress. He called for the creation of a committee to help drive economic development and build a stronger future for the Ao society.
Former minister S.I. Jamir expressed joy at the hall’s completion and acknowledged the efforts of visionaries, who were no longer present. He said the facility stands as an example for other communities and encouraged the youth to build on this foundation.
DAYO president Tiatemsu Longchar said the organisation was formed to support all Ao people in Dimapur and beyond. He urged the community to stay united and let the hall serve as a tool for youth development and community building.
Convenor of the ASTD monetization committee, Mongkum Jamir, stressed that hard work, transparency, and integrity are key to progress and prosperity.
The programme was chaired by DAYO vice president Imkongsungkum. Highlights included a welcome speech by ASTD president Ningsangwaba, audit report by DAYO construction committee convenor Limatangit Lemtur, a special song by Ao Kaketshir Telungjem Dimapur and vote of thanks by DAYO construction committee secretary Aotemsu Aier. Invocation was led by Wangshikokla, general secretary of Dimapur Watsu Telongjem.
