Senior Citizens Association of Nagaland (SCAN) has appealed to all senior citizens (above 60 years) of Nagaland to join/enrol under the SCAN at its headquarters in Kohima and units in the district headquarters.
The association has also appealed those districts, who were yet to form the association to organise and form the district branches/units of SCAN at the earliest in consultation with the state level office bearers.
SCAN also urged the senior citizens to take it seriously and initiate appropriate action., so that as a team it will work towards strengthening a legitimate place for senior citizens in the society and “to make our collective and objective voice of experience and wisdom heard for the good of our society and humanity”.
The association noted that not in Nagaland but developing communities all over the world faced with many challenges with regard to quality of life, availability of services and other problems of livelihood. As such, SCAN said the informed and experienced senior citizens have much to offer in the form of “matured, reasonable and wise counsel and road map to the policy makers and the younger generation for peaceful, sustainable and healthy development and progress of the State and its citizens”. However, the association lamented that individual voices and opinions tend to be overwhelmed and ignored by the present generation’s rush for wealth and personal gains where senior citizens in the state were being relegated to the background and ignored because “we are not organised properly in most parts of the State”.
It was for this reason, the association said that enrolling and formation of district units/branches was needed to voice out for their rights. For any queries and details, the association has appealed to the senior citizens to contact SCAN general secretary, Dr. Rose and vice president, Dr. P Khala.
