
A community sensitisation programme on “environmental pollution and human animal conflict mitigation” was organised by Kiphire Wildlife Division, Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change in association with Green Land Society and District Administration, Kiphire on May 31 at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire town.
According to Kiphire Wildlife Division, delivering keynote address, Green Land Society, chairman, Joyangthong, spoke on the pollution due to carelessness by human activities.
Wildlife Warden, Kiphire, Suman W M Sivachar, gave a presentation on the issues of human-animal conflict with examples from all over the country and Nagaland.
He also spoke on environmental pollution with special focus on air and plastic pollution. Sivachar highlighted that women, children and the elderly have been identified as the most vulnerable by United Nations Environment, when it comes to the harmful effects of pollution.
DC Kiphire, Shayung Phom, encouraged the participants and spoke about the indigenous use of eco-friendly products. He encouraged the participants to learn from the hands-on training.
He stated that enforcement on the ban of single-use plastics would be thorough and extended support to all those involved in the conservation of the environment.
Kiphire Town Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KTCCI) secretary, Tsalichem, while speaking on the current position of the plastic ban in Kiphire, said the KTCCI was facilitating the business groups and various stakeholders in doing away with plastic use and making availability of paper bags in the district.
To tackle plastic pollution, the programme was followed by a half day hands-on training to the participants on paper bag making led by LDA-cum-computer assistant, Kiphire Wildlife Division, Samuel Walling.
A total of 80 participants from Kiphire Akheda Santamlarü Thsingmüjang, Tikhir Women Union Kiphire, Kiphire Sumi Totimi Hoho and SHGs took part in the programme.
