Sensitisation w’shop on solid waste management

A sensitisation workshop on solid waste management was organised by State Investment Program Management and Implementation Unit (SIPMIU) Kohima, Urban Development department on September 29 at the Kohima Solid Waste Management Facility, Lerie.

A press release by the department stated that the workshop was part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of Independence.

The department also organised an exhibition on “value added recycle waste materials”. 

On the occasion, the various projects taken up under North Eastern Region Urban Development Programme (NERUDP), Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, government of India were highlighted while site visit to the 50 tonnes per day (TPD) compost plant, sanitary landfill, leachate treatment plant and the dry waste segregation and reuse unit were also organised for the participants.
