Sensitization on the benefit of “one village, one co-operative society” under Northern Angami-11 covering 30 villages was held on Tuesday at Hotel Vivor.
The programme was organized by Assistant Registrar Co-Operative Society Kohima in collaboration with Northern Angami Chukehie Society Kohima.
Addressing the gathering, deputy registrar co-operative society, Anthony Yhome, expressed hope that “one village one co-operative society” would be beneficial to the farmers.
Pointing out that many of the societies in the state were not contributing to the society, he warned that government will stop extending help to those societies.
He also said that any person can become the members of the co-operative society to start any activities like weaving society, poultry, dairy farm etc. He also asked the villagers to avail benefits offered by the co-operative society.
Assistant registrar co-operative society, Bokato Hesso in his address, said that the initiative was the first of its kind in the state and expressed confidence that it would progress with the cooperation from the villagers.
He pointed out that cooperative society, is an autonomous association to meet the common economic, social and cultural needs through a jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise, by imbibing the value of self –help, self –dependent, democracy, equality and solidarity.
He also said that co-operative society was a legal society under Nagaland cooperative societies Act 2017, whose objective was to promote the economic interest or general welfare of its members or of the public in accordance with its seven cooperative principles.
In this regard, he said registered society can avail various schemes of the state and centre.
Assistant registrar co-operative society, Imsunungsang shared the socio-economic, cultural benefits by forming co-operative society. He also highlighted the various activities to be carried out by the responsible department.
Earlier, the programme chaired by president of Northern Angami Chukehie Society Vibeilietuo Kets began with an invocation by Sr. Pastor Central Baptist Church, Neichalie Chadi. Around 300 persons from 30 villages of Northern Angami areas including VCC, GBs, village leaders, youth members and others attended the programme. Many societies formed from various villages registered on the same day.
