Sensitization programme on “open defecation free” under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) for Ongpangkong North/South was held at town Hall, Mokokchung on June 11, organized by district water and sanitation mission and attended by officials from the district administration, Health & Family Welfare, PHE department and representatives from the villages.
According to DIPR, district ambassador for SBM, M. Bendangnukshi Longkumer said that the main objective of the mission was to create a clean and safer India. In order to accomplish this objective of “open defecation free” every section of the society must be aware of the consequences.
Therefore, he urged all the participants to put concerted efforts to create a cleaner environment.
He also pointed out that Mokokchung was often considered as one of the cleanest districts in the state as such one should be more sensitive towards issues like dumping of waste matters, open urinal etc.
Deputy commissioner Mokokchung, Sushil Kumar Patel in his short speech mentioned that village councils have an important role in bringing behavioral change towards open defecation in the rural areas.
He asked the representatives from the village to act as agents of change by giving firsthand knowledge to the villagers so as to achieve open defecation free in the district.
