Sep 23 incident: Mon, Charaideo CSOs devise ways to resolve issues

After the discovery of two dead bodies below the road between Angjangyang and Longching under Mon district on September 23 last, which stoked tension along Assam-Nagaland border, the civil society organizations (CSOs) from Mon district, Nagaland and Charaideo district, Assam, resolved that all matters or incidents that occur on either side, would be first communicated to the counterpart CSO before executing any actions independently.

The resolution was taken during a meeting held at the Konyak Union Office, Tizit unit on September 29, 2023 organized by the Konyak Union, Headquarters Mon.

With regard to September 23 incident/accident at Angjangyang under Mon district, where one driver and handyman from Charaideo, Assam lost their lives, the two CSOs resolved that in the event of awaited forensic report found it as a murder, both sides would pressurise the district administration and police for a prompt investigation to apprehend those responsible at the earliest.

The resolution noted that open and transparent communication would enable both sides to address issues promptly and amicably.
Two CSOs also resolved that any incident or crime that could arise on either side would not be taken as a communal issue. Instead, they affirmed to work together to address such matters legally, adhering to the provisions of the law.

“This approach will ensure that justice prevails and that conflicts are resolved in a fair and unbiased manner,” the two sides agreed.
Recognising the importance of maintaining regular communication and coordination between their organizations, the two sides have, therefore, decided to hold time-to-time coordination meetings as and when required.
They said that such meetings would serve as platforms for discussing emerging issues, sharing information, and strengthening their partnership.

Further, it was decided that resolutions and action points would be discussed and mutually agreed upon in subsequent meeting where a joint action committee would be formed to ensure the continued progress of their collaborative efforts in promoting peace, unity, and harmonious relations between their communities. The next meeting would be held on October 10, 2023.

They also resolved to foster peace and unity and also strengthen the relationship between the Ahom/Assamese people and Konyak Naga people. The signatories of the resolution included KU Mon president Tingthok Konyak, KSU Mon president T. Noklem Konyak, ATTSA Charaideo president Manab Bhakti, KNSK Mon president Ponglem Konyak, TAYPA Charaideo president Bhabananda Borgohain and KU Tizit Unit president T.
