WNYF: Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF) has expressed its strongest condemnation of the unfortunate incident that occurred on the night of May 2, wherein our executive/advisor, Wekupe Therie, was physically assaulted by Inato Chishi along with four other intoxicated individuals.
The organisation said the attack and subsequent vandalism of Therie’s personal vehicle represented a grave affront to peace, law, and mutual respect in society. WNYF expressed full solidarity with Therie and his family and maintained that such incidents have no place in a peace-loving society.
CYF: The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) also vehemently condemned the “attempted murder” of the WCYO president, stating that he was badly assaulted with intent to kill. The organisation expressed concern that two of the alleged perpetrators were reportedly out on bail in connection with a similar case when the crime occurred. Questioning public safety and the ease with which habitual offenders secure bail, the CYF said it had met the Commissioner of Police and other officials on May 7 to raise concerns over the safety of citizens and community leaders.

The organisation demanded immediate and uncompromising action to identify, arrest, and prosecute all those involved. It cautioned that any attempt to shield the perpetrators or delay justice would embolden criminal elements and threaten public harmony and security.
DLYO also expressed solidarity with the victim, the WCYO, and the Western Naga Youth Front, while praying for the victim’s speedy recovery. The organisation further called on civil society groups and citizens to unite against violence, lawlessness, and intimidation in order to safeguard peace and social harmony.
ZYOD: The Zeliang Youth Organization Dimapur (ZYOD) has strongly condemned the attack on Western Chakesang Youth Organization president and Western Naga Youth Front advisor, Wekupe Therie.

According to the organisation, when Therie stopped his vehicle to peacefully settle the matter, around five individuals allegedly attacked him using hard objects, including glass vodka bottles, causing serious injuries and extensive damage to his vehicle.
ZYOD further alleged that one of the accused identified himself as Inato Chishi from Niuland district while threatening the victim. Calling the incident a serious attempt on Therie’s life, the organisation expressed concern over what it described as increasing lawlessness in the Dimapur region. It demanded immediate arrest of all accused persons, charges under attempt to murder and other criminal offences, speedy investigation, maximum punishment if found guilty, and compensation for the victim. It further asserted that a minor accidental vehicular contact escalating into such violence was alarming and unacceptable. WCSU has demanded a thorough investigation and immediate apprehension of the perpetrators. The union also appealed to Naga civil society organisations, tribal bodies, and individuals to unite against violence and support justice.
NUVC has further stated that a period of 15 days had been given for the remaining culprits to surrender before the authorities, failing which democratic and lawful action would be initiated in pursuit of justice.
