A severe thunderstorm accompanied by heavy lightning, strong winds, and incessant rainfall caused widespread disruption in Wokha district during the early hours of August 17.
Among the reported incidents, a bamboo clump collapsed on a Hyundai i10 parked along the roadside at Forest colony, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m., but fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
According to local residents, the thunderstorm was one of the most intense weather events in recent weeks, with continuous lightning strikes and deafening thunderclaps lasting throughout the night.
The heavy rainfall triggered landslides in several parts of Wokha, and multiple trees were uprooted, including one in the vicinity of the District Forest Office.
The storm also led to power outages across Forest colony and surrounding areas.
Residents reported that electricity was restored only by 3 p.m. on the same day, after several hours of disruption caused by fallen trees and bamboo obstructing power lines.
Despite the significant damage to property, the community has expressed relief that there were no injuries or loss of life.
Local authorities and emergency response teams are monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to clear debris and restore normalcy.
