Shillong, JUN 28: The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) has imposed a lifetime ban on former U‑23 women’s team head coach Hemant Roy and assistant manager Sanjay Mondal after the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) found them guilty of sexually harassing players during a tournament in Tripura in December 2025. MCA president and Rajya Sabha member James Sangma announced the decision on June 27, also suspending honorary secretary Rayonald Kharkamni for failing to act promptly on the complaints.
The MSCW further directed disciplinary action against former MCA president Naba Bhattacharjee, treasurer Dhrubajyoti Thakuria, and operations manager Shiningstar Lyngdoh for negligence and non‑compliance with the POSH Act, 2013. Chairperson Iamon Syiem’s order described their inaction as grave misconduct, requiring corrective and institutional measures. The MCA president and Ombudsman Justice (Retd.) B.D. Agarwal were instructed to submit a compliance report within 30 days.
Sangma condemned the incident, acknowledging systemic failures and pledging zero tolerance for sexual harassment. He praised the courage of the victims and urged others to come forward. Sangma has also written to BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, apprising him of the bans and suspensions, and called for stronger safeguards to protect women cricketers in Meghalaya and across India.
