Meluri Town Sümi community inducted as sub-unit

DIMAPUR: The officials of the Sümi Hoho attended the Tuluni Festival at Meluri Town, organised by the Meluri Town Sümi community on July 8 at Sumi Baptist Church Meluri Town with the president of the Sümi Hoho, Dr. Vihuto Asumi, gracing the occasion as the special guest.
In a press release, Sumi Hoho through its media cell stated that in his address, Dr. Vihuto Asumi spoke on the significance of Tuluni, describing it as the festival of abundance and thanksgiving for a bountiful agricultural season. He said Tuluni is a festival of feasting and hospitality, where families, relatives and friends come together to celebrate the blessings of life. He further noted that it is a festival of reconciliation and peace-making, of strengthening social bonds, particularly among betrothed couples and of celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Sümi people through traditional songs, dances and community gatherings.
Dr. Asumi stated that the Sümi community is permanently settled and has established its presence across Nagaland. He said this places the Sümi people in a unique position to foster peace, unity and harmonious relationships with all tribes and communities. Stressing the importance of maintaining cordial inter-tribal relations, he expressed happiness over the reaffirmation and strengthening of the longstanding relationship between the Sümi and Pochury people.
Calling upon the gathering to uphold integrity in every sphere of life, Dr. Asumi quoted C. S. Lewis, “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” He encouraged everyone to live by this principle in their personal lives and in service to society.
The Tuluni celebration concluded in an atmosphere of unity, friendship and cultural harmony, reflecting the enduring spirit of goodwill and mutual respect shared between the Sümi and Pochury communities.
A significant highlight of the celebration was the formal induction of the Meluri Town Sümi Community as a sub-unit of the Sümi Hoho. On the occasion, Dr. Vihuto Asumi unveiled the plaque of induction, officially welcoming the community into the Sümi Hoho.
The programme was also addressed by the Deputy Commissioner of Meluri, Phuleshe Yeptho, and the president of the Pochury Hoho, Chonpa Jurry. Among those present were leaders of the Pochury Hoho, the chairman of the Meluri Town Council, representatives of various organisations and a cultural troupe from Meluri Village.
