SH flays ‘step-motherly’ treatment of Zbto Govt. College

DIMAPUR, AUG 8 (NPN)

The Sümi Hoho, on behalf of the people of Zunheboto district, has issued an open representation expressing strong resentment over the continued indifference of the department of Higher Education towards Zunheboto Government College, the only government Arts college in the district.
Sümi Hoho has expressed serious concern over the continued indifference towards of faculty members from Zunheboto Government College, alleging “step-motherly” treatment by the Department of Higher Education.
In an open representation addressed to the minister of Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, Sümi Hoho president Dr. Vihuto Asumi and general secretary Hotoshe Sema noted that despite an earlier appeal submitted to the department on May 16, 2025, for revocation of faculty attachment orders, yet another assistant professor from the department of History has now been attached out of the college.
SH said that Zunheboto district has neither a government Science nor Commerce college, and the lone Arts college, already struggling with limited faculty and high student enrolment, was now being further weakened.
While other institutions across the state are being strengthened, the hoho said Zunheboto Government College is being quietly stripped of its essential teaching staff.
It also questioned whether the department intended to shut down the college altogether, citing that repeated verbal assurances from the minister’s office and senior officials had not translated into corrective action.
Terming the department’s conduct as a clear pattern of step-motherly treatment, SH said they considered it as a serious affront to the hoho and the aspirations of the people of the district
The hoho, therefore, demanded immediate revocation of all faculty attachment orders from the college without delay.
SH cautioned that if this unjust and discriminatory treatment continues, the people of Zunheboto district would be compelled to take firm and democratic steps to defend their educational rights and hold the department responsible.
SH asserted that the issue was not just an administrative matter, but one of dignity, equality, and justice for a district that it claimed had been repeatedly sidelined.
