Sümi Hoho (SH) on Wednesday declared that it would “henceforth monitor and supervise the foothills roads (FHR)within the Sümi-inhabited areas.
SH through its media cell recalled that it took serious note of February 28, 2025 press statement of Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC), which targeted PWD(R&B) minister G. Kaito Aye. SH asserted that constructive criticism was “a natural aspect of democracy”, but personal attacks demeaning a leader were unacceptable.
In an effort to address the concern, the SH said it had engaged with NFHRCC leaders and urged them to take appropriate corrective measures. However, after those efforts did not yield the desired outcome, SH said it issued press statement on March 13, 2025 seeking an apology from NFHRCC.
In response, the hoho said NFHRCC invited SH for a meeting on March 22, 2025, to discuss the issue. At the meeting, the hoho said SH “clearly articulated” its stance.
SH has, however, expressed surprise that NFHRCC press statement issued after March 22 meeting “contradicted” the discussions at the meeting.
The hoho said it “fully supports” the objectives of the NFHRCC, but “this development has resulted in discontentment regarding its leadership.”
Therefore, SH has declared that “it will henceforth monitor and supervise the foothills roads within the Sümi-inhabited areas.”
Meanwhile, the hoho has urged the state chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, and PWD (R&B) minister, Kaito Aye, to initiate the construction of the foothills roads at the earliest, as the project was of critical importance to the people of Nagaland.
