IMPHAL, Oct 6: Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said on Tuesday that the date for Union home minister Amit Shah’s expected visit to the state was yet to be fixed.
The chief minister had invited Shah to visit the state during a meeting during his (chief minister’s) visit to the national capital in the last week of August last to discuss a range of issues concerning the violent crisis that hit the state.
When there is no sign of the Union home minister visiting the troubled-state in the next few days, reporters on Tuesday enquire about the expected visit during a news conference attended by the chief minister.
The chief minister said that Union home minister Amit Shah was most likely to visit the state within the current month, October, before adding that the date was not fixed as of now.
The query from the reporters came in the backdrop of an official release of the chief minister’s secretariat that informed that the Union home minister agreed to the chief minister’s invitation to visit in state.
The official release, issued after the chief minister had an audience with the Union home minister on August 27 had stated that Shah agreed to visit the state by the first week of October (current month).
“Shah has agreed to lay the foundation stone for the medical college in the Naga-majority Senapati district,” the CMO release said.
The decision to establish the medical college in Senapati was taken by the state cabinet earlier.
