Agartala, Jun 2 (PTI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said Union Home Minister Amit Shah would be on a two-day visit to the state from June 4, during which he would lay the foundation stone for a hotel and inspect the Bangladesh border.
Shah will come here after attending the North Eastern Council (NEC)’s plenary session in Meghalaya’s Shillong, he said.
“Shah will arrive here on June 4. He will lay the foundation stone for the Taj Pushpabanta Palace hotel the next day,” the chief minister told reporters.
The state government signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Tata Group’s Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) on March 14 last year to convert the iconic Pushpabanta Palace into a heritage five-star hotel in the city.
Pushpabanta Palace was built by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya in 1917 and had served as the Governor’s House for several years.
Shah is also scheduled to visit the bordering areas of the state to inspect the barbed wire fencing in West Tripura and Sepahijala districts, Saha said.
The chief minister had already requested the Centre to repair the barbed wire fencing along the international border with Bangladesh because several stretches of it were damaged due to heavy rainfall and sweltering heat.
“After inspecting the border fencing, Shah will decide on the next course of action. All of us know that he has a plan for proper border management in three states – West Bengal, Assam and Tripura, which share 4,096 km boundary with Bangladesh”, he said.
