SHILLONG, JUN 2: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair the plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong on Thursday. Governors and chief ministers of all eight North Eastern states will attend the meeting at the State Convention Centre.
According to an official, the plenary will deliberate on key initiatives related to growth, connectivity and sustainable development in the North Eastern Region.
Shah is the ex-officio chairman of the NEC, while Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia serves as vice-chairman. Senior officials from the DoNER ministry and NITI Aayog will participate in the meeting. Representatives from organisations including Assam Rifles, NEEPCO, NHIDCL, NEDFi, NERCORMS, NERAMAC, NEHHDCL, NESAC and NIC will also attend.
During the plenary, NEC secretary Satinder Kumar Bhalla and DoNER secretary Sanjay Jaju will brief members on ongoing initiatives and activities in the region.
A pre-plenary interaction involving chief secretaries of North Eastern states, secretaries of central ministries, NITI Aayog representatives and planning secretaries of the region is scheduled to be held on Wednesday.
